On September 9th, Charlie Lee and Roger Ver sat down to have a conversation about Bitcoin, Litecoin, and Bitcoin Cash. It all happened during the Blockchain Cruise, an event where these encounters are both common and inevitable. However, this particular clash made sparks fly in a rather unexpected way, and an important bet has been made between the two crypto titans!
Furthermore, a really nice metaphor for Bitcoin scalability has been introduced by the two debaters: the blockchain is just like a good restaurant that’s so in demand that everyone wants to reserve a table. A skilled restaurant owner can opt to buy land and keep on expanding the walls (a metaphor for big blocks) or also take over the restaurant next door (thus having a second layer, the Lightning Network). It may not be the most revealing example for this exciting technology, but it definitely is a good way of explaining the phenomena in easily comprehensive terms.
See the video below to see how it went down.
Rules of the Bet Between Charlie Lee and Roger Ver:
- Will run for 18 months from September 9th, 2018
- Ends Monday, March 9, 2020
- If Lightning Network has more than 1000 merchants, Charlie Lee wins!
- If Lightning Network has less than 1000 merchants – Roger Ver wins!
- Loser wears the opponent’s company clothing and makes a video saying they were wrong.
Who can say which party will take home the satisfaction of winning after 18 months, it is anyone’s guess! We look forward to seeing how this plays out. We would love to see how the represented communities in BTC, LTC, and BCH feel about this. Interact with our social media and have your voice heard!
[…] this is going to be a fun one: What kind of t-shirt would you like to see Roger Ver wear after he made that bet that he’d wear whatever t-shirt is given to him if Lightning Network gets more than 1000 […]
