Ethereum inflow velocity and derivatives pressure

Institutional capital moves toward Ethereum

Ethereum ETFs attracted $1.5 billion in net inflows throughout 2026. This amount exceeds the $985 million Bitcoin ETFs captured during the same period. Bitcoin ETF assets under management remain at $109 billion, which stays six than the $18 billion held by Ethereum ETFs. The massive $91 billion asset gap between Bitcoin and Ethereum ETFs requires years of sustained Ethereum inflows at current rates to close the existing disparity in total market scale for all institutional asset managers globally. BlackRock’s ETHA product drove nearly three-quarters of the $1.42 billion net inflow during the ten-day streak between August 17 and August 27. BlackRock’s ETHA accounted for $1.02 billion of those inflows. On August 27, Ethereum ETFs logged $225.8 million in net inflows. This figure marked the highest recorded amount since October 28, 2025. On August 14, net inflows into US spot Ethereum ETFs were $639.6 million. BlackRock’s ETHA saw $519.7 million, while Grayscale Ethereum Mini Trust attracted $60.7 million and Fidelity’s FETH saw $56.9 million. Invesco’s ETF recorded $2.26 million. On August 11, inflows into funds based on the second-largest cryptocurrency set a record of $1.02 billion. BTCS secured $192 million in funding from July 1 to August 12 through DeFi loans on the Aave platform, convertible notes, and share sales. This increased reserves to 70,140 ETH, valued at over $321 million. Public companies manage 3.57 million ETH, valued at $16.5 billion, with BitMine Immersion Technologies as the largest holder. The data shows Ethereum has captured the momentum, even if it lacks the total scale of Bitcoin.

Supply constraints and futures expansion

Ethereum open interest grew 9.70% to $30.22 billion. Trading volume reached $119.49 billion, which is a 337.62% increase. Exchange-held Ethereum fell from 7.70 million coins on June 2 to 6.54 million by August 18. This 15% decline in exchange balances reduces available selling supply. One address removed 30,000 ETH from Binance for a value of $67.42 million. Abraxas Capital withdrew 18,000 ETH. This second withdrawal totaled $39.56 million. A newly created wallet removed 6,704 ETH worth $14 million. CME Group plans to extend its Basis Trade at Index Close product suite to include crypto futures. You already know that derivatives positioning often dictates the direction of these moves. Bitcoin ETFs experienced $5 billion in outflows during the first half of 2026. This included a single-day withdrawal of $818 million in late January. However, Bitcoin ETFs saw $6.3 billion in inflows during the third quarter. This recovery allowed Bitcoin to achieve its first winning quarter in one year.

Technical resistance levels

Ethereum maintained a trend line above $2,000. If the price stays above this level, targets reach $2,400 and $2,600 to $2,700. The 200-day EMA sits at $2,125. Resistance stays at $2,450. The $2,500 zone is a hurdle for momentum. A rejection at $2,450 could trigger a move back to $2,200. The RSI sits at 60.62. The MACD histogram is flat at zero. Ethereum trades at 83% of its Bollinger Band range. The SMA 7 is $2,346 and the SMA 20 is $2,258. The 200-day SMA is $2,825. Retail traders are 56.6% long, while smart money traders are 48.5% long. Volume on Binance reached $819 million. The taker buy/sell ratio is 1.03. DonAlt expects Ethereum to reach $4,000 or even $10,000 if the price holds. Michael Van de Poppe suggests potential pullbacks represent entry points. Ted notes that $2,500 is the next hurdle. Will the current momentum overcome the massive Bitcoin dominance?
