How Wintermute and Paradigm influence Ethereum’s liquidity

Ethereum volatility and the DEX volume decline

Ethereum trades at $2,355.20 on October 29, 2026. This value is a 0.50% increase from the $2,343.40 price recorded on October 28, 2026. The asset holds a market capitalization of $287,734,679,940. This current price follows a recovery from the $1,700 level in July 2026, though it is much lower than the $5,000 peak reached in August 2025. Trading volume on Ethereum-based decentralized exchanges fell 45% throughout October. Sam Bankman-Fried, the CEO of FTX, attributes this decline to "fake volume" from trans-mining, where traders trade against themselves to earn native tokens. In September, Uniswap recorded daily trading volumes near $1 billion, but those numbers fell to $100 million in October. This volatility follows a steep drop in early 2026 caused by recession fears and Vitalik Buterin selling millions of dollars in ETH. Compared to the $4,128.21 price from a year ago, the current valuation is 40.94% lower. You already know the ETH price swings are extreme.

Cryptocurrency Price (Oct 29, 2026)
Bitcoin $83,402.32
Ethereum $2,355.20
Tether (USDT) $0.99
XRP $1.37

Wintermute expands liquidity into prediction markets

Wintermute expands its institutional presence into prediction markets to manage event risk. The firm handles $3.5 trillion in annual trading volume and manages spot, derivatives, decentralized finance, and over-the-counter markets. Wintermute Asia recently executed a BTC/USD block trade through CME Group. Prediction markets like Kalshi and Polymarket show a combined weekly volume of $5.8 billion. These platforms process 42.7 million weekly transactions across 400,000 active markets. Kalshi holds 70% of the market share, with politics and sports dominating the betting. Kalshi is regulated by the Commodity Futures Trading Commission. Jake Ostrovskis, head of OTC trading at Wintermute, says these markets have the demand profile of a major asset class but the liquidity of an early-stage one. He notes that sustained two-sided liquidity helps tighten spreads and supports larger trade sizes. This expansion could accelerate integration between prediction markets and broader DeFi protocols for collateral reuse or yield strategies. Evgeny Gaevoy, CEO of Wintermute, questions if blockchains can handle the enormous volumes seen at CME or Nasdaq. He says that competing directly with major financial exchanges could force platforms like Hyperliquid to increase centralization.

Paradigm and the UniswapX mechanism

Dan Robinson, Head of Research at Paradigm, analyzes how UniswapX changes the meta for swapping, MEV, and interoperability. Robinson has studied markets, auctions, and liquidity in DeFi for years, with a particular focus on Uniswap and Uniswap V3. He views decentralized exchange research as a method to reduce the value that leaks from the system. In automated market makers, value leaks to MEV through burned gas costs or losses that liquidity providers suffer to arbitrageurs. UniswapX uses a Dutch auction mechanism to address these issues. This shift focuses on the two most vital parts of a DEX: swappers and liquidity providers. Will the shift toward intent-based models finally eliminate the value leakage that plagues automated market makers? Robinson notes that UniswapX impacts bridges, rollups, and market makers. The mechanism also influences how users swap assets in DeFi. He argues that sustainable research must reduce the value that leaks from the system entirely rather than just shifting it between swappers and liquidity providers.

Ethereum scaling and technical resistance

Ethereum’s network growth includes the Pectra upgrade from May 2025 and the Fusaka upgrade from December 2025. The Glamsterdam upgrade arrived in mid-2026 and introduced ePBS for MEV resistance. The Hegota upgrade, featuring Verkle Trees for state growth, arrived in 2026. Technical analysis shows the daily RSI at 62. The MACD indicator is positive. While Ethereum users watch the Glamsterdam upgrade that arrived in mid-2026 to introduce ePBS for MEV resistance, they also monitor the $2,355 price level as it tests critical resistance zones near $2,000. Traders watch the $2,000 psychological level and the 100-day EMA around $1,950 to $1,970. A break above $2,000 enables bulls to target $2,100 to $2,150. The price is currently at the 50% Fibonacci retracement level of the decline from $2,300 to $1,550. If the price fails to hold the $1,850 to $1,880 support zone, it may head toward the $1,680 to $1,720 range.
