Starknet Bitcoin integration and privacy frameworks lead DeFi trends

Bitcoin integration and staking

Starknet reached 800 million. This amount covers 19% of the circulating supply. The network holds 659 BTC in staking, bringing the total value staked on the network to over $150 million. This volume surpassed Arbitrum’s ARB lockups. The strkBTC asset enables Bitcoiners to use BTC for borrowing and lending.

A five-member Federation comprising Twinstake, NEAR Intents, Luganodes, UTXO, and Xverse supports the strkBTC bridge.

Bitcoin staking now contributes 25% to the network security model.

The BTC Season program provides a 100 million STRK incentive for six months. It targets liquidity on Ekubo, lending platforms like Vesu, Uncap, and Opus, and interest subsidies for BTC-collateralized borrowing. More than 1,000 BTC bridged into the ecosystem in just three weeks. The consensus model uses a dual-token structure where STRK provides 75% of security and BTC provides the remaining 25%. As users stake more STRK, Bitcoiners earn more rewards because they receive a fixed 25% of total STRK emissions. Re7 offers a BTC-denominated strategy with a 20% APR, which Midas tokenizes for use as collateral across Starknet DeFi. This price action follows a 26% jump in STRK value, which pushed the market capitalization to $306 million. Starknet’s Bitcoin and privacy features lead current DeFi trends.

Privacy and STRK20

STRK20 enables users to shield ERC-20 assets into encrypted balances. This framework operates at the protocol level. It uses note-based cryptography with zero-knowledge proofs generated via S-two and Cairo.

The SNIP-36 upgrade in v0.14.2 allows in-protocol proof verification. This makes confidential state transitions possible without exposing balances. The SNIP-37 part of the upgrade rebalanced the economic model by increasing storage costs and reducing base L2 gas prices.

Users shield USDC.

The system uses an encrypted viewing key framework for regulatory compliance. Authorized auditors reconstruct transaction histories for specific lawful requests.

Will privacy features attract more institutional capital?

AVNU and Ekubo integrate with STRK20 for private swaps. Vesu allows lending against shielded collateral. Endur generates yield on private positions. Each shielded transaction costs a fixed 4 STRK. Developers build applications using the 11 design patterns enabled by this framework. Users can also utilize private USDC, which allows for shielding balances and conducting confidential transfers through wallets like Ready or Xverse.

Performance and Cairo-Native

The Grinta upgrade launched on September 1. It introduced three sequencers using Tendermint consensus. This change makes the network decentralized.

Currently, StarkWare runs the sequencers.

Block times dropped from 30s to 4s. Pre-confirmations reduce latency to 0.5s.

This transition uses advanced compilation technologies like MLIR and LLVM to run programs directly on the operating system using the CPU’s native instruction set to increase speed and resource efficiency.

The dual-execution workflow between the sequencer and the prover creates consistency risks, yet the network performs well.

Starknet handles a sustained rate of 273 UOPS and reaches peaks of 2,630 UOPS. This throughput exceeds the capacity of many competitors. The network also introduced a fee market inspired by Ethereum’s EIP-1559 to make gas prices more predictable. Developers build on the Cairo language, which allows for provable computation at scale. You already know the basics, so look at the performance numbers.

Performance Metric Value
Peak Throughput 2,630 UOPS

Pre-confirmation Latency 0.5 seconds
