Bitcoin support levels and macroeconomic shifts in October 2026

Bitcoin price reached $82,622.04 at 7 a.m. on October 8, 2026. This figure falls $1,136.96 below the price from the previous morning. The price stays $40,750 below the level from one year ago. I expect a move toward $74,000 first if the price enters a decline. This $74,000 zone marks the April 2025 lows where buyers previously defended the market. The year low in April 2025 sat at $74,437. If the sell pressure exceeds demand, the price should fall toward the $68,000 area. This $68,000 level coincides with the July 2024 local highs and the 200-week exponential moving average. The 200-week exponential moving average remains untested for nearly three years. A decline to $68,000 constitutes a 24.9% drop from the $90,605 price seen in January. The market reached its all-time high of $126,198.07 on October 6, 2025. This peak was 28% higher than the prices seen in late 2025. Bitcoin bulls now target $70,000 as the next major breakout level. Analysts like James Wynn have pointed to $67,000 as a major support channel. Brannigan Barrett also noted that $68,000 is likely to be tested. Does the market have enough strength to stay above the $74,000 support?
The Federal Reserve Interest Rate Pivot
The September 2026 Federal Reserve dot plot reveals a hawkish shift. FOMC participants project a target range of 4.00% to 4.25% for the end of 2027. This projection removes the possibility of rate cuts during 2027 that the March 2026 dot plot included. Twelve participants project a rate target between 4.00% and 4.25% by the end of 2026, which indicates a strong consensus regarding the potential for one additional rate hike before the year concludes. The median participant expects the fed funds rate to end 2026 at 4.1%. The Committee also raised the 2026 and 2027 growth forecasts to 2.3% and 2.4%. Headline PCE inflation for 2026 sits at 3.7% according to the September Summary of Economic Projections. The Fed increased the target range to 3.75% to 4.00% on September 16. This hike follows a December 2025 move where the Fed lowered the target to 3.50% to 3.75%. The unemployment rate forecast for Q4 2026 remains at 4.1%. The Committee noted that economic activity is still expanding at a solid pace despite geopolitical developments in the Middle East. The 10-year US Treasury yield rose to 5% because of confidence in economic resilience and higher real yields.
Institutional Expansion and Whale Accumulation
Goldman Sachs expands its institutional reach by acquiring NEOS Investments for up to $2.25 billion. This deal adds $30 billion in active ETF assets under management to Goldman. Goldman Sachs also provides Bitcoin-backed loans through a secured lending facility. Large holders continue to buy Bitcoin even as prices drop. Eighty-nine wallets holding 10,000 BTC or more hit a six-month high. This group added six wallets or 7.1% of its size over the last eight weeks. The supply held by wallets with 10,000 to 100,000 BTC rose to 11.35% on August 19 from 11.24% in late June. These whales purchased 20,000 BTC since July 29. US spot Bitcoin ETFs saw $754.69 million in net inflows this week. On Wednesday, $240 million flowed into these products. The NEOS acquisition also includes the $1.1 billion Bitcoin High Income ETF, which uses covered-call strategies to generate monthly income.

Divergent Market Sentiments
Retail activity decreased in August. Small wallet holdings fell due to the Coldcard hacks and the CLARITY Act uncertainty. The Coldcard hack resulted in the theft of about $120 million in Bitcoin. I see a market divided between large holders and retail traders. Whales bought $1.2 billion of Bitcoin in 2026. Large holders grew their share of the supply while micro wallet holdings fell. The number of wallets holding 10,000 to 100,000 BTC rose to 11.35% of the supply. Nexo analyst Liya Kalchev said ETF-related volumes are the first indication of institutional demand re-emerging. Glassnode data also showed Bitcoin’s active addresses and transfer volume moved to the lower end of their recent ranges. On-chain profitability improved only marginally, and realized losses still outnumber realized profits. You already know that whales act differently than retail traders. Will the massive accumulation by large holders provide enough liquidity to keep the price above the $60,000 floor?
