Ethereum price analysis: social sentiment hits yearly low

Ethereum social sentiment reached its lowest level in a year. Ali Martinez notes this metric reached its most negative levels since December 18, 2023, when ETH traded between $2,100 and $2,200. When sentiment hit rock bottom last year, ETH price rallied 30% in the following weeks to reach $2,700 by January 12. This rally eventually led to a March high of $4,093. If the current pattern repeats, ETH could jump to the $4,900 to $5,000 range in the next month. Bernstein forecasts a $5,500 target for the end of 2026. Standard Chartered targets $4,000 for the end of the year. Citi targets $3,028 for October 2027. Current ETH price is $3,874, which reflects a 2.3% decline in the daily timeframe. Skew warned that breaking past the $4,000 resistance will take more buying pressure because massive sellers continuously top up supply at that level. Altcoin Sherpa noted that ETH has not materially broken the $4,000 level for years.

Traders pay a premium for short-dated puts to hedge against price drops, and this 1-week 25-delta skew of 7.4 volatility points shows they prioritize protection even though calls represent 63% of open interest. Short-dated ETH puts trade at a volatility premium of up to 8 percentage points over calls. The 30-day 25-delta skew is 3.1 volatility points. Calls represent 63% of ETH options open interest, while puts make up 37%. The call wall is at $2,600, and the put wall is at $2,300. ETH slipped 8% over the last month, while Bitcoin gained 1.5% in the same period.

Supply shock and institutional flows

Ethereum balances dropped to levels not seen in seven years. Glassnode data shows ETH continues to exit exchanges. This supply shock reduces immediate selling pressure. Institutional interest remains active despite recent ETF outflows. US Ethereum ETFs recorded $149 million in net withdrawals on October 26 and 27. BlackRock and Fidelity contributed 78.20 million of the recent $321 million in ETF inflows. Ethereum holds 48% of the $46.2 billion in tokenized real-world assets.

Metric Value
ETH Price $3,874
ETH Daily Change -2%
ETH 30-day Change +22.6%
ETH 7-day Change -4.63%
ETH Circulating Supply 122.17 million

Bitmine holds 6.05 million ETH. Total stablecoin supply on Ethereum is $142.5 billion, and DeFi deposits total $46 billion. You should monitor the $3,800 support level closely if you follow the weekly timeframes.

Technical resistance and the Glamsterdam upgrade

Ethereum trades below its 50-day moving average of $2,535. It remains above its 200-day moving average of $2,160. The daily RSI is 38 and the MACD histogram is negative. Support levels are at $2,327 and $2,292. Resistance is at $2,373 and $2,418. The Glamsterdam upgrade aims to lower Layer-2 fees through PeerDAS. Developers postponed the October 26 Hoodi test to investigate EIP-8037 compatibility. This delay targets a mainnet activation in Q4 2026. Will the delay of the Hoodi test prevent Ethereum from reclaiming its $4,000 resistance?

Ethereum manages a large settlement footprint despite these technical delays. The network settled $16.75 trillion in stablecoin transfers between July 15 and October 12, 2026. High activity levels could strengthen the fee burn mechanism, but lower fees from Layer-2 scaling might reduce aggregate burn. The Fed held interest rates at 3.75% to 4.00% on October 28. Lower rates would support the higher price targets from Bernstein and VanEck. Bearish sentiment persists because the market continues to digest the post-peak cycle. Reclaiming the $2,535 moving average is a requirement for a stronger recovery.
