Ethereum staking yields fall behind Treasury returns

The Fed Funds rate remains at 3.63 percent. Ethereum solo staking rewards sit between 3.2 percent and 3.8 percent. This compression makes staking less attractive compared to Treasury bonds. As the total amount of staked ETH reaches 32 percent of the supply, the fixed protocol issuance spreads across more participants, which forces the individual staking yield to drop. MEV income accounts for 30 percent of validator income. This income depends on transaction volume and priority fees. During the DeFi slowdown of 2024 and 2025, MEV per validator decreased. Ethereum recently rallied 37 percent in 10 days despite rising Treasury yields. This rally occurred as the 10-year Treasury yield moved higher, a factor that usually creates pressure on growth assets. Higher bond yields strengthen the dollar and increase borrowing costs, which reduces liquidity for cryptocurrencies. Yields fell.

Pectra changes validator efficiency

The Pectra upgrade changed how validators manage assets. EIP-7251 allows a single validator to hold up to 2,048 ETH. This change reduces the operational burden for large holders. EIP-7002 enables exits via the execution layer without requiring operator signatures. EIP-6110 moves deposits on-chain to reduce activation time from hours to minutes. You know that fewer validators reduce network overhead. New 0x02 validators support auto-compounding rewards. This feature provides a 1.5 percent relative APR uplift. Users must still trigger manual skims to claim rewards. Consolidation of 0x01 validators into 0x02 types causes a 27-hour pause in rewards. EIP-7702 brings account abstraction to Ethereum. This allows standard accounts to behave like smart contracts during transactions. Transaction batching helps users perform complex operations in one go. Flexible gas payments let users pay for staking in tokens other than ETH. Most institutional stakers target 256 to 1,024 ETH per validator to balance yield efficiency with key-level correlation risk.

Staking Venue Annual Yield
Solo Validators 3.2% – 3.8%
Liquid Staking 3.0% – 3.5%
Centralized Exchanges 2.5% – 3.0%
Restaking +1% to 3%

The gap persists.

Market supply and institutional pressure

Institutional buyers like BitMine hold 4.8 percent of the supply. BitMine holds 5,847,611 ETH, valued at $14.66 billion at recent prices. The company acquired 32,447 ETH in the week ended August 23. It has bought ether every week since the treasury strategy launched on June 30, 2025. This large position functions as a structural removal of float. Staking participation increases as more users seek rewards. This movement reduces the liquid supply of ETH available for trade. LIDO holds 28 percent of all staked ETH, which creates centralization risks.

US spot ether exchange-traded funds saw net inflows exceeding $1 billion. One session alone added $192 million to the complex. This demand helps offset the pressure from rising Treasury yields. Ethereum price approaches the $2,500 resistance level, which is a supply zone where institutional buying meets profit-takers. The current yield gap makes staking less attractive compared to Treasury bonds. Staking yields fell. Will institutional demand push ETH price higher despite the yield gap?
