Grayscale outflows are a temporary disruption to Ethereum ETF flows

Ethereum ETFs recorded a $24.29 million net outflow on September 8, 2026. This session concentrated losses within Grayscale products. ETHE lost $9.57 million. The Grayscale Ethereum Mini Trust lost $24.61 million. These two funds together exceeded the entire net outflow for all nine Ethereum ETFs, while Fidelity’s FETH added $9.89 million and BlackRock’s ETHA recorded no net flow during the session.

Fidelity’s FETH added $9.89 million.

Investors moved away from ETHE. This fund previously traded at a discount to net asset value. The discount decreased from 203% to 5.5% after news of the ETF approval. It reached a premium of 0.31% on July 3, 2024. The discount had been narrowing since the crypto bear market bottom in December 2022. This shift happened before the expected debut of spot Ethereum ETF listings. Nine issuers are vying to launch 10 Ethereum spot ETFs in the United States. The Grayscale Ethereum Mini Trust carries a 0.15% fee. This fee is much lower than the 2.5% fee on ETHE.

Ethereum inflows remain strong

Ethereum ETF products entered September with momentum. The week of August 24 to 28 saw $824.41 million in net inflows. The following week added $218.40 million. These two weeks combined for over $1 billion in net inflows. Total Ethereum ETF assets reached approximately $15.6 billion.

The recent outflow is a minor pullback. This single day of $24.29 million in outflows equals roughly 3% of the inflows from the record week in late August.

Can these Grayscale redemptions stall the upward trend?

Fund Ticker Fee Rate September 8 Flow
ETHE 2.5% -$9.57 million
ETH 0.15% -$24.61 million
FETH Not listed +$9.89 million
ETHA Not listed $0.00

You should watch if outflows spread to BlackRock or Fidelity.

The market shows increasing diversification. In August, Solana ETFs attracted over $170 million, while XRP products collected more than $150 million. Bitcoin ETF products also saw strength, with U.S. spot products attracting more than $3 billion in August. Compared to these numbers, the $24.29 million outflow from September 8 is small. In Hong Kong, the Bitcoin ETFs hold $246 million and the Ethereum ones hold $41 million.

Price action and market volatility

The market is sensitive.

Grayscale ETHE experienced cumulative outflows of nearly $5.39 billion since its conversion. These outflows stem from legacy investors moving into cheaper alternatives like the Grayscale Ethereum Mini Trust. The Mini Trust fee is 0.15%. This fee is much lower than the 2.5% fee on ETHE. Grayscale is one of the largest crypto asset managers.

In August 2025, Ether ETFs drew $3.87 billion in net inflows. This occurred while Bitcoin ETFs saw $751 million in outflows. In late August 2025, US spot Ether ETFs logged their second-largest daily inflows of $729 million. This happened after inflows hit $2.3 billion over three days. Ether hit a new all-time high of $4,945 in August 2025.

Institutional demand for Ethereum is a significant driver.

Historically, ETHE behaved like GBTC. GBTC experienced significant outflows after its conversion. Daily GBTC outflows peaked at $642 million on March 18, 2024. The balance of BTC in GBTC fell from 619,000 to 278,000 BTC after the launch. Bitcoin ETFs received $15.1 billion in net inflows between January 11, 2024, and June 15, 2024. This represented 4.4% of the total supply of BTC.
